The scenic way home.
September 14th to 27th
Part 4
East it is and you cover your ground quick at 140kph in the Territory. Soon Barkley homestead looms in and I find myself at the bar. And some great yarns are told as has been the case at some stops on this trip.

The R80 belongs to a gentleman rider from Tasmania doing the rounds of Australia and on his way to Townsville.
Barkley was one of those places that was full of people traveling to somewhere on the map.
Up early and into a bacon and egg sandwich. Fuel up and off on the 262km run to Camooweal. The head wind is strong today so lets see if we can hold 140 and make it on one tank 22L. The answer is no 10 km shy of camooweal and the FJ rolls to a stop. Refuel with the 5L I've been carrying and into town to fuel up.
Quick bite to eat in the Isa and back on the road to Longreach. Fall short of Longreach and camp the night in Winton

Winton and a bed for the night. The RSL should be a good place for a feed and a beer and it was...Until late. Don't ask. And there are no pix. Early start for Longreach and a bit seedy. Hit Longreach and run into a couple of guys doing a round trip from Townsville one on a good looking FJ 1200 and the other on a ZZR 1100. We chatted a bit then off to look around.

After Longreach Home seemed close so the run home was made without a stop to sleep and I made it Home here in Brisbane 2am Sunday 28-9-2008. OutBack Queensland is my back yard and will be the stage for more rides and reports..
