The scenic way home.
September 14th to 27th
The Far cairn rally over and with a bit of time off work it was time for a ride to see what I haven't seen before. After the rally, on the Sunday morning, I headed south to Forbes and back onto the Newell Hwy down to Victoria to see relatives and pass through my old stomping ground. Not a lot of new things to see or do so a straight run to Bendigo..
The FJ had fallen over in the night at the rally in Tottenham and broken a mirror so off to the Yamaha dealer and a new one was received overnight at some cost to me..
A few days in the area to catch up with family and on the Friday it was on ya bike and off to see the world.. Well central Aus at lest. A large loop through the center of Australia and a journey that would cover some 8600 km over roads in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

By Friday night I had been on the road from early morning. I had pasted through a lot of small towns. But the main idea for the day was to make Broken hill. Arrived at the Hill a few hours before dark for quick look around. Then out west on the Barrier Hwy for a few kays to make camp.
With a early start I had but one thing on my mind get to the Flinders Ranges. So west to Peterborough, up to Hawker and on to Wilpena.

Camp is set up and rest taken as I have chosen to do the 20km walk to the highest peak St Mary. The morning sees me up early and walking the outside track.

After about three hours the summit was reached. It was a tough climb with the section to the saddle back a real test. But once at the top the views soon healed the pain.

The walk back to camp was take through the pound and out to the old home stead that was Wilpena.

A long nights rest was needed and a late start in the morning to let the muscles heal. I was yet to find out how long that healing process would take.
To be continued.
