Saturday morning and I awake to the sound of rain on the roof but that want stop me and the daughter heading out to see Lightning ridge. So we pack the last few things and jump on the bike. Into the wet beyond we go
.
West we head with a few showers and dull light to guide us. Round the back of Brisbane and out onto the Cunningham Hwy heading to Goondiwindi. The showers stay with us to Cunninghams gap but clear as we head into Warwick. And onto Goondiwindi.
From Goondiwindi we head west on the Barwon Hwy to Nindigully where I turn left and down toThallon. The road to Dirranbandi has some dirt sections but is covered in no time. I had worried about this when I seen the pools of water on the sides of the roads. South from Dirranbandi toward the ridge dodging the flocks of birds on the road looking for grain I think. A few close calls with the birds and into Lightning ridge we go.

Sunday was spent looking around the Ridge taking in some of the tours and opal shops.

Opal is just a colored stone and I’m not paying that much for stones.

Monday and we’re on the bike at 7.30 give the hoppers time to go to sleep and it was south along the castlereagh hwy for about a hour before we swing north east toward Moree. Up the Newell to Gundy and back to Brisbane taking in Toowoomba and a bit of wet stuff as we cross the range to get home..
1587km for the weekend covering new ground which I always get a kick out of.
Also the first long ride for the daughter who really loved it..
