The Rose Garden (1845) reprinted 1992
Translations from the Persian of Sadie of Shiraz. In the 1845 editions of Lang's newspaper The Mofussilite he began to publish a series of poems translated by him from the Persian Court Poet Sadi of Shiraz. Lang was a brilliant linguist and in India this facility with languages was a valuable asset. The poems are philosophical mainly about man's condition in life and his relations with kings and women

Seek not in age for youth that's fled
Thou seekest friend in vain
The stream that flows from the fountain head
Will ne'er flow back again.
