John Lang's Works John Lang wrote over twenty novels and most of them were published anonymously in India as serials in his newspaper The Mofussilite. At least five of his novels were never published as books but appeared only as serials. The Mulini Press is in the process of publishing these unknown novels. Some of his works have an Australian setting and other are set in India and England. He also wrote stories and articles on the Indian people with others set in England. Lang is best known in Australia for his novel The Forger's Wife and his collec-tion of short sketches and stories called Botany Bay or True Tales of Early Australia which was reprinted by the Mulini Press in 1994. It included the now well known story 'Fisher's Ghost' or 'The Ghost on the Rail'. John Lang's books already in print in addition to Botany Bay, published by the Mulini Press are his early works, Legends of Australia No.1. Frederick Charles Howard (1842), Raymond (1840), Mazarine (1845), Lucy Cooper (1846) and Botany Bay (1859). In preparation is Lang's last novel Ellen Wareham (1862) which was never published as a book. The Mulini Press plans to publish Lang's first novel Violet the Danseuse (1836) in 2006.
