Occasional Tales

This is a series of stories and articles written over twenty eight years from 1836 and published in a number of periodicals and especially in his newspaper The Mofussilite. They are usually of 3,000 to 5,000 words although some of them are longer. Not included in this series are John Lang's novels which are to be published separately.

The series will commence with some of the stories published in Household Words which were not included in either his published collections Botany Bay or in Wanderings in India. They are planned to be published at the rate of one or two per year.

The Indian stories are planned to be included in a separate book entitled Legends of India, Sketches of Life in Hindustan.

The first in the Occasional Tales are from Household Words and are as follows

  • Hovelling (in preparation)
  • Experience in Austria
  • Invisible Ghosts
  • A Human Waif
  • A Bad Name
  • Bad Bargains

These Occasional Tales will be published in booklets in a limited number of copies and sent to those people who have become Associate members of The John Lang Project. A few copies will be available for $10.00 from The Mulini Press. There is no guarantee that there will be copies left for such sale.
